Buddhism in Tibet House: Choedzong
The Buddhist community Choedzong has laid the groundwork for the vision of a Tibet House in Germany to be turned into reality.
The Tibetan word Choedzong means: "fortress of Buddhist teaching". For more than 20 years we have been in the very fortunate position of being guided by one of the most qualified Tibetan masters, H.E. Dagyab Kyabgoen Rinpoche. The organization Choedzong was founded near Nuremberg at the beginning of the 1980s and moved to Frankfurt in 2005 to create Tibet House.
Tibet House is under the spiritual guidance of Dagyab Rinpoche who wants to offer a broad variety of Buddhism in both theory and practice. Therefore, we regularly invite guest teachers of all Tibetan Buddhist traditions, as well as from other Buddhist schools like Zen and Theravada.
In our program non-Buddhists and Buddhists can find
seminars on Buddhist Sutras and [Tantra], as well as study groups and meditation retreats that take place in the country.
Since September 2006 we have been offering a 3-year course in
Buddhist studies led by Geshe Nawang Thapke. When developing the course together with Dagyab Rinpoche, we particularly paid attention to not "just" passing on philosophical knowledge. We paid special attention to a learning method based on mindfulness interspersed with regular short periods of meditation. Thus knowledge doesn't only get "registered by the brain" but can be integrated into our daily Western lives in a meaningful and harmonious way.
Additionally, Tibet House offers an ongoing
weekly program. For example, there are guided meditations on "calm abiding" and teachings by Geshe Nawang Thapke on the basics of The Buddhist Stages of the Path (Lamrim).
If you have any questions about Buddhism in general or the contents of any of the seminars, a team of people experienced in Buddhism - our Western Buddhist teachers - are available to answer questions. We are glad to hear about any suggestions as well as criticism.
You can always find our extensive program of regular and new Dharma classes and events – regularly updated - on the Internet at
www. tibethaus.com, in our
Event Calendar, and in the
Tibethaus-Journal "Choekor".
