The World of Buddha – early Buddhist cave drawings in India

Exhibition by Bernd Rosenheim at Tibet House

Private Viewing: 2.11.2007 – 7:30 p.m.

Duration of exhibition: 3.11. 2007 to 27.01.2008

The sculptor and author Bernd Rosenheim is a real exception. Born 75 years ago at Offenheim near Frankfurt he made a name for himself as an artist, an author of scientific texts and even as a script writer for TV series like “The World of Buddha” (ARD, a leading German public TV station). He is also the founder of the Rosenheim trust with a museum at Offenbach.

Rosenberg already traveled to India at the end of the fifties, because he was attracted by one of the most complex civilizations created by mankind. One of the results of his travels was, among many others, a large documentation of photographs of known and unknown cave shrines, but also of many wonderful drawings of relief, statues, and architectural items.

It is a special pleasure for us to be allowed to exhibit some of these wonderful drawings at Tibet House.

The artist Bernd Rosenheim will be present for the private viewing when he will show one of his movies “The life and teachings of Buddha” (45 min).

We would like to point out the wonderful coffee-table book by Bernd Rosenheim: “Die Welt des Buddha, Frühe Stätten buddhistischer Kunst in Indien” (The World of Buddha, early sites of Buddhist art in India), published by Philipp von Zabern, 2006.
